You'll still need to provide at least some information.
"dumb looks" tells us nothing.
Include: Relevant Outlook versions, how the file was created, how you
transferred it, how you accessed it, and what happens including an accurate
account of error messages.

OK. I'm sorry. I thought that much would have translated from the thread's
previous messages. Let me start over, using your questions.

Relevant Outlook versions: The Outlook version on the PC I used to create
the file was Outook 2003. The version on my other PC where I want to
open/import the file is Outlook 2000.
how the file was created: I created the file using the file/new/outlook
97-2000 (or whatever it's called).
how you transferred it: I had originally tried to import the file, but now
that I've read your earlier comments about how importing is what it is, you
can tell what the results were. So, I simply tried file/open and selected the
file.
how you accessed it: See above.
what happens including an accurate account of error messages: I tried to
open (not import) using file/open/personal folders file (pst). The file
appears in the "open personal folders" window. I select it. I click OK. The
window disappears. Nothing appears in the Contacts view of Outlook and that
window states that "There are no items to show in this view."

In other words, my Outlook isn't "opening" the file, or at least not in the
way that I expected. I'd really appreciate any help on making this work. It
sure would beat having to remake all of my contacts.

You left out the most important part.

After you created this file, how did you put your Contacts in it?

After I selected the format listed below, the pop up window appeared, I made
a name for it and selected the place to save it to. Then, I selected OK. I
had saved the file to a memory stick. I checked in Explorer to ensure that a
file had been saved and it was there. Looked like it was over 200K in size so
I didn't do anything else to make sure that all of the contacts had been
transferred. Did I miss something?

Alrighty then. How do I "populate" that file? Thanks.

God bless,

Indeed.
You created an empty file.
Once you create it you must copy your data into it.

After I selected the format listed below, the pop up window appeared, I
made
a name for it and selected the place to save it to. Then, I selected
OK. I
had saved the file to a memory stick. I checked in Explorer to ensure
that
a
file had been saved and it was there. Looked like it was over 200K in
size
so
I didn't do anything else to make sure that all of the contacts had
been
transferred. Did I miss something?

You left out the most important part.
"how the file was created: I created the file using the
file/new/outlook
97-2000 (or whatever it's called)."
After you created this file, how did you put your Contacts in it?

OK. I'm sorry. I thought that much would have translated from the
thread's
previous messages. Let me start over, using your questions.

Relevant Outlook versions: The Outlook version on the PC I used to
create
the file was Outook 2003. The version on my other PC where I want to
open/import the file is Outlook 2000.
how the file was created: I created the file using the
file/new/outlook
97-2000 (or whatever it's called).
how you transferred it: I had originally tried to import the file,
but
now
that I've read your earlier comments about how importing is what it
is,
you
can tell what the results were. So, I simply tried file/open and
selected
the
file.
how you accessed it: See above.
what happens including an accurate account of error messages: I
tried
to
open (not import) using file/open/personal folders file (pst). The
file
appears in the "open personal folders" window. I select it. I click
OK.
The
window disappears. Nothing appears in the Contacts view of Outlook
and
that
window states that "There are no items to show in this view."

In other words, my Outlook isn't "opening" the file, or at least not
in
the
way that I expected. I'd really appreciate any help on making this
work.
It
sure would beat having to remake all of my contacts.

You'll still need to provide at least some information.
"dumb looks" tells us nothing.
Include: Relevant Outlook versions, how the file was created, how
you
transferred it, how you accessed it, and what happens including an
accurate
account of error messages.

I DID try to open the file, as I stated below.
When I try to open the file, the pop up window disappears after I
click
OK.
But when I look at the contacts list, it is empty.

Then specify what problem you having.
Importing is never the correct way to transfer data.
Just open the file.

I did create the file in the 97-2000 format from Outlook 2003.

If the file was not created in the correct format while using
Outlook

there is no solution.

Russ,
I'm trying to do the same thing. When I try to import or
open
the
pst
in
outlook 2000, all I get from my PC is dumb looks. Please
help
me
(and
hopefully, I'm not the dumb one).
Thanks.

You can only do so from Outlook 2003, and you must use
File
New
Outlook
data file "Outlook 97-2002" format. There is no "Save
as"
function.

I did not copy the .pst files when in Outlook 2003 using
the
file
save
as
97-Outlook 2002 format and I do not have the opportunity
to
redo
the
copy.
I
have the .pst files I want burned to a CD and copied it
to
a
new
file
on
my
old laptop using the information you posted previously
on
this

Any
suggestions as to how to get the data transferred over
to
Outlook
2000?
Thanks so much.

Well documented here every day.
You must create a PST in Outlook 97-2002 format while
in
Outlook
2003
and
copy your data into that file.
This is one of the many reasons exporting is the wrong
way
to
transfer
Outlook data.
