Default Word 2003 "error message"

I just purchased a new computer, hp a650y, with Windows XP Home Edition
with Microsoft Student and Teacher Edition 2003 (Word 2003). When ever I
start Word 2003, and many times click a document, I receive this error
message: "Microsoft Word: 'The command cannot be performed because a
dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to
continue.'"

I click "OK," but I don't have to "close dialog boxes to continue." As soon
as I click "OK," the error message disappears and word or word document
opens. I want to know why I'm receiving this error message, AND, why is it
instructing me to do more than needed, i.e. all I have to do is click "OK."
Bottom line, what dialog box are they talking about since this happens when
I've just opened Word, or even after I've opened Word, but I haven't to my
knowledge opened any "dialog boxes." Sometimes I've only just "opened" Word
2003 and I'm just then opening my first document and the error message
appears anyway. At this point, there are no dialog boxes, no documents
opened--Nada, zip, zero, yet I receive an error message. I'd appreciate any
help, and if possible e-mail your reply to . In
advance, thank you for your help and consideration.

If your new PC has Norton AV installed, uncheck its Office Plug-in

Did the computer come with a trial version of Norton Anti Virus? Open NAV
and disable the Office Plug-in.
