Default Importing Address Book from Outlook to Outlook Express

I have Office 2000 and Windows XP Home. I had been using Outlook Express for my email. When I had to reinstall Office 2000, I lost my Outlook Express address book. I would like to import it from Outlook but I'm not offered that option when I go to file, import, other address book on the OE menu. Nor am I able to figure out how to export my Outlook address book from the Outlook program to OE. In fact when I run a search for file *.wab in XP the results turn up empty. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate it.

Hi Ricker59,

When searching for "*.wab" did you include hidden files and folders?
A (Windows) address book button (to open the book) can be added to the
toolbar of Outlook Express.

Export the Outlook Contacts to a comma-separated values (Windows) file. Do
this from the File menu (of Outlook), Import and Export..., Export to a
file. Browse to the save location. Use this CSV file to import the entries
into the Windows Address Book.

Look in the registry under this key:
Start, Run, regedit will open the registry editor.

Drill down through HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4

In WAB4 there is probably an entry that says:
UseOutlook 0x00000001 (1)

Double-click "UseOutlook and change the 1 to a 0. This will make Outlook
Express stop using the .PST file for its address book.

Now go to Start/Run and type: WAB /A
and OK. Do you see an address book, and are there any entries in it? If
not, then all of your contacts are only stored in Outlook's PST file and
will have to be exported from that program into a CSV file for Windows or
DOS. You may then have to remap some of the fields in the CSV file (which
is a text file you can open using Notepad) to agree with the import
requirements of Outlook Express' WAB file format.
