How can I filter slides for sorting a huge PP prsntn?

Default How can I filter slides for sorting a huge PP prsntn?

I've been given the task of organizing a 500+ slide PP presentation into
order by subject matter. I'd love to be able to just assign numbers and sort
that way (like Tables or Excel) but can't see that it's possible. Any
suggestions, other than moving slide after slide after slide in Sorter View?
Would different colored backgrounds using multiple Masters work? Thanks.

Personally I would use Custom Shows or break it apart and link the separate
presentations.
