As long as you can have the last word that is. Too bad.

FWIW, you were correct that my original formula would always return the
last entry in the OP's data, but your diagnosis of the cause was
incorrect. If the COUNTIF call's criteria forces text comparison, the
formula works for any text. The formula you had provided in your first
response to me would only work with numeric text, in which case it was
inferior to the other formulas already provided, including your own. If
that formula were applied to a range with any nonnumeric text, it would
return #VALUE!.
