Office 2003 Pro versions, SKUs, licenses...

Hi --

I am looking for Office 2003 Pro; I got bitten for the support problem
for OEM versions with XP (Microsoft does not provide any free support
for OEM versions), and so my short list has: 2003Pro Full Retail,
2003Pro Upg Retail, 2003Pro Enterprise. Here are my questions:

1. Is my currently owned copy of Office XPPro OEM eligible for the
upgrade?
2. What are the license limitation of 2003Pro Full vs. Upg vs. Ent?
Can I install each of these products on two machines (desktop and
laptop) as long as I am the only user?
3. Is there free support for the Ent version?
4. Is there a complete listing of SKU numbers for the versions? So
far I came up with the following:
269-07387 Full at Microsoft's online store
269-06738 Full anywhere else
269-07875 Upg at Microsoft's online store
269-06752 Upg anywhere else
269-06826 Ent at CDW and atomic.com
269-06807 Ent elsewhere

You mean the retail Office 2003 Upgrade version will not install over
Office XP OEM, correct? Can you also confirm that Office 2003 OEM is

versions of Office 2003 Editions.

Note Office 95 doesn't qualify for the version upgrade price of
Office 2003 Editions.

Sorry - I misread your original post to say that you had an OEM version of
Office 2003, not XP. My bad.

Correct on the OEM part, however. OEM versions may have been customized by
the OEM so that Microsoft will be unable to support the installation of OEM
software. The computer supplier is responsible for all support, except for
patches and other items made available by Microsoft.

Yes, you are correct: The statement says "The following products qualify".
Since no version of Office OEM is listed as a qualifying product, it follows
that there is no upgrade path from Office OEM.

Milly, I am sorry if I may seem a little dense and totally confused,
but can you please confirm whether Office 2003 Professional in an
Upgrade package will install over an OEM version of Office XP
Professional?

I still cannot see why it would not work? I find it hard to believe,
that if I had bought a Toshiba or a Dell with pre-loaded Office XP,
Microsoft would have required me to purchase a Full version 2003
rather than an Upgrade. My XP Pro OEM did not come preinstalled, but
that's a detail.

Sorry for any confusion - yes, it should work just fine. Although I have
heard that some european OEM versions are not upgradeable, it usually works
just fine.
