Default Concatenate group of cells

Is it possible to concatenate group of cells. i e for exp if cell a1
contains "a" and cell a28 contains "z" . What i want is a formula which will
results in to abcd----xyz.

Download and install the free add-in Morefunc.xll from:
http://xcell05.free.fr/

then use this formula

=MCONCAT(IF(A1:A28"",A1:A28))

I will look forward to seeing a "smarter" formula which doesn't use VBA or
add-ins.

I'm not sure I completely understand your requirement, but let me take a
guess. Does this formula do what you want?

=MID("abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz",CODE(A1)-96,CODE(A28)-CODE(A1)+1)
