Default ADDENDUM: PowerPoint2003 crashes when attempting to play an MPG cl

lI have tried to manually play the MPG clip using mplay32.exe and it crashed
with the same error. Is there a way to fix mplay32?
Also, I have carefully read the (excellent) document posted at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorial...multimedia.htm
Although I have followed the recomendations including checking the registry,
the problem persists.

I will appreciate any ideas.
Thanks

Hi,

I use Windows XP, PowerPoint 2003 and WMP10.
When I attempt to insert an MPG clip in a slideshow and play it it causes
PowerPoint to crash, sending a detailed error report to Microsoft.
Note that I can play this clip externally using WMP10.
Also note that other clip type such as WMV plays ok within PowerPoint.
I have already restored the MPG file ype characteristics to their default
values (TOOLS--FOLDER OPTIONS--MPG--RESTORE)
I have also re-installed WMP10 just in case....as well as I have got the
latest DirectX package.....nothing helped so far.
I suspect I have a problem with MCI (Microsoft Control something) which is
the default player that comes with the operating system. How can I check it /
fix it ?
Are they any other ideas?
Thanks
