PowerPoint2003 crashes when attempting to play an MPG clip
Hi,
I use Windows XP, PowerPoint 2003 and WMP10. When I attempt to insert an MPG clip in a slideshow and play it it causes PowerPoint to crash, sending a detailed error report to Microsoft. Note that I can play this clip externally using WMP10. Also note that other clip type such as WMV plays ok within PowerPoint. I have already restored the MPG file ype characteristics to their default values (TOOLS--FOLDER OPTIONS--MPG--RESTORE) I have also re-installed WMP10 just in case....as well as I have got the latest DirectX package.....nothing helped so far. I suspect I have a problem with MCI (Microsoft Control something) which is the default player that comes with the operating system. How can I check it / fix it ? Are they any other ideas? Thanks -- Shlomi |

What is the original source of the mpeg? I ask as it sounds like it is
using a strange codec that is "close" to the standard codecs but something is not working as it should. If you can play the file in Media Player you may want to give PFCMedia or PFCPro a try. Both come with a two week free trial so it won't cost a thing to try. Austin Myers MS PowerPoint MVP Team Provider of PFCMedia, PFCPro, PFCExpress http://www.pfcmedia.com "?????" wrote in message ... PowerPoint2003 crashes when attempting to play an MPG clip
Those MPEG's worked just fine within my PowerPoint up until a few days ago.
Something happened recently ad I can't figure out the reason for this. Unfortunately I also can't restore my system back. During the last days I have used for the first time on this computer Microsoft Movie Maker (ver 5.1) and an application called MyVideoConverter. Could this movie maker version cause this problem? can I upgrade it? I didn't find it on microsoft.com downloads. BTW uninstalling the latter didn't solve the problem. -- Shlomi "Austin Myers" wrote: What is the original source of the mpeg? I would suggest downloading Windows Media Player 10 and reinstalling it to correct the problem. -- Austin Myers MS PowerPoint MVP Team Provider of PFCMedia, PFCPro, PFCExpress http://www.pfcmedia.com |

Unfortunatelly no "BINGO" yet :-) It didn't help.
Assuming this is indeed the problem (which makes sense), is there a newer version of movie maker (higher then 5.1) out there in the web? . Or is there anotrher way to restore the codecs? If you agree then I could email you the detailed error report (if yes then please provide me your email address) Thanks -- Shlomi "Austin Myers" wrote: "?????" wrote in message news Those MPEG's worked just fine within my PowerPoint up until a few days ago. 5.1 is the latest version AFAIK. It's much more likely to be
"myvideoconverter". Try downloading windows media encoder series 9 and run the mpeg through the convert program and see if that helps http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx -- email john AT technologytrish.co.uk "Glass" action buttons - http://www.technologytrish.co.uk/pptbuttons.html Need a dice throw for a ppt game?- http://www.technologytrish.co.uk/dice.html "שלומי" wrote: Unfortunatelly no "BINGO" yet :-) It didn't help.
