Default excel 2003 upgrade problems

i have just upgraded to 2003 mainly to gain the increased
functionality within protected worksheets. in the new
product, when protecting a worksheet, it is possible to
allow users to still have the ability to use auto filter
and sort (wheras protection in earlier versions prevented
this).

despite checking the relative submenu options under
worksheet protection, the autofilter and sort functions
are still 'greyed out' and unavailable.

any ideas/existing experience greatly appreciated.

Did you apply the autofilter before you protected the worksheet?

And all your cells in the sort range must be unlocked to be able to sort. If
you have even one locked cell in that range, it won't work.

(And I've always better luck explicitly selecting my range--not letting excel
guess it.)

(I use xl2002.)
