Publisher 97, How do I align text vertically?
In Publisher 97, how do I align text vertically within a text box, or within
a cell in a table? I can center text horizontally, no problem. I've looked everywhere (Help file, internet) and can't figure it out. Answers I've found are for other versions of Publisher. Please help, this is driving me crazy! |

Tabs... In a text box, use the right-tab setting. Delete all tabs, create a
right tab where you want the alignment to start. In a table cell, use ctrl+tab. -- Mary Sauer http://msauer.mvps.org/ "slack7639" wrote in message ... Publisher 97, How do I align text vertically?
Hi Mary - I don't know if this went through before. It doesn't look like it.
I clicked to post, unknown to me the page had timed out, and what I had typed in was gone (This would be an improvement in browsers that I'd like to see. How do I get that text back? You have to type what you want into Notepad, save the file, and then copy and paste to the internet if you want to avoid this issue.) This feature with right-tabs is a new one for me (thank you!), but not what I'm thinking of. I think that Pub97 must be able to do what I want, because I've been able to do this in more recent versions of Publisher that I've used, and it seems like an obvious feature that you'd like in a publishing program. I think it must be buried somewhere. Let me describe again. I can align text vertically (manually) by adding some returns at the top, and doing it by sight. I can achieve greater accuracy in vertically aligning the text, if I make the line/font size the minimum of 4 pt, and then adding some returns at the top. What I'd like to be able to do, however, is to click on a button that centers the text between the top and bottom margins automatically, just like how I can click on the button that aligns text horizontally between the left and right margins. |

Publisher 97, How do I align text vertically?
Is your text filling the entire page? Have you thought about creating rectangle
above and below where you want the text to start and stop. The text will wrap. Publisher 97 doesn't have the format text box as future versions do, there is no command to center the text vertically in a text box. -- Mary Sauer http://msauer.mvps.org/ "slack7639" wrote in message ... Publisher 97, How do I align text vertically?
.. . . Is your text filling the entire page?
No, it's a table with a number of cells: 9 rows - 2 of varying height, 4 are merged together, all of them go the width of the page, there are 1/2" margins 2 columns - a line down the middle, except where the rows are merged together ************************************************** **** .. . . Have you thought about creating a rectangle above and below where you want the text to start and stop. The text will wrap. Problem isn't with the text wrapping, it's with the text being auto spaced vertically within the cell, or text box. ************************************************** **** .. . . Publisher 97 doesn't have the format text box as future versions do, there is no command to center the text vertically in a text box. Amazing! This is what I needed to know. Thank you! Looks like I have to do it manually: Set a blank row above the text to 4 pt, put in some Returns, and center it by sight. I wonder how this function could have been left out? Well, they've since improved on it, 100% +! Thank you for your help. |

Publisher 97, How do I align text vertically?
Hi there.
I have used Pub'97 for years. You might try this: highlight the text you want to align; click "Format" on the menu bar, then "line spacing" and play with the inter-line space (leading). That's how I do it. Hope this helps. ~Helen~ |
