Default Country Selection and Area code

I create a contact and type a phone number and select a country. Save it.
Then re-open and check the phone number...the area code that I inserted is
there but the country reverts back to the default country.

How could I get the country that I select to be retained

Thanks for your help

You did not post your Outlook version.
You did not post how you "select a country."
Both would be required for an answer.

Default Country Selection and Area code

Outlook 2003
I am creating a New Contact
I fill in the Name

Under Phone Numbers
I click the (e.g. Business) Button
I locate the country from the drop down menu
Type in the corresponding area code
Enter the Local number
Then click OK

Here is the problem
If the default country is say "Canada" and the contact that I created lives
in say Venezuela, I change the country to Venezuela and Save the Contact
that I created. Now when I open up this contact and check the phone number
button.....the area code is as I typed in but the country reverts to the
default in this case Canada

Hope that explains it

Odd. I can't reproduce that. Outlook 2003 no longer fills in a country by
default. Outlook 2000 did that.
What operating system and what are your Regional/Language settings and Phone
and Modem option settings?

Default Country Selection and Area code

Ok my Regional settings for Location is Trinidad and Tobago (not Canada as
mentioned in my earlier post)

I am using XP Pro

Phone & Modem: My Location Area Code is 868 (for Trinidad & Tobago)

I have again tried it this morning...same result.

What is your default country? Are you trying to create a new contact with
a different country and area code to duplicate what I did??

It's hard to duplicate what you did, since that is still unclear and keeps
changing. I assume now that you're referring only to the phone number
dialog, not the address. The address dialog is where a Contact's country is
stored, not the phone number dialog. The phone number dialog will display
your dialing location. So I believe what you are seeing is the expected
behavior. What problems is it causing? As long as your dialing location is
correct and the Contact's area code is correct, the number will be dialed
correctly if it is international format.

I understand your explanation. Yes it refers to the phone number so I guess
I could live with that small anomaly

It shouldn't cause any problems. I've never paid any attention to it because
it appears to be of no consequence. I always use the address fields to store
the Contacts' Country/Region location.
