Make sure that both spreadsheets are opened in the same instance...
To test Copy something go to the other workbook right click and choose Paste Special... do you see all options (means same instance) like Values, Formats etc. or only limited ones (means separate instances) like paste as text,...? Try this Open the first workbook Open the second using the File-Open command from within Excel Try pasting... it should work To open all workbooks in same instance try this; Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar 1) Start-Run- excel.exe /unregserver -OK. 2) Start-Run- excel.exe /regserver -OK. See the space between exe and /regserver You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe (most likely C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11) In that case Start-Run- "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\excel.exe" /regserver - OK Note: 1. quotes are required because of spaces in the path 2. Office11 means Excel 2003. Excel 2007 is Office12 "robin l" wrote: Can I send someone my spreadsheet - pasting from one spreadsheet to another is not working. Well, I copy dates and other data from one spreadsheet into another
spreadsheet and different dates and data are pasted that have nothing to do with anything. I.e I copy 10/1/08 and 4/2/03 pastes. Protection is off. Don't worry, you're not going insane. In your workbook that has the 08
date, go to Tools / Options / Calculation and untick the "1904 Date System" option, which is likely to be the cause. See here in the section "The Two Date Systems Of Excel" for more info. http://cpearson.com/excel/datetime.htm Regards Ken....................... Must admit i had assumed that the OP simply threw in what they believed to
be a couple of representative dates as opposed to actual values. Regards Ken.................. "Glenn" wrote in message ... Format the cell containing 10/1/08 as a number instead of a date (easiest way is to click on the comma on the Formatting toolbar). Does it display "39,722.00" now? Or "39,457.00" (I don't know if you are using m/d/y or d/m/y)? If either number above is correct, copy it and paste it into the other worksheet. What does that display? If it is the same as in the original worksheet, then format it as a date. Now what does it display? |

You are onto something - but when the 2 spreadsheet have diff date
calculation (1904 vs not) , how can i get the info from the copy spreadsheet to past correctly? When I change both to the same date calculation - all the dates get corrupted even when I say past values only. "Ken Wright" wrote: Don't worry, you're not going insane. So let me just clarify, with both files confirmed as NOT using the 1904 date
system, if you copy a date from one to the other, the data changes? What is the data you are copying, ie is it a formula? What if you hard wire a date into your first workbook and then copy and paste into the second, what happens then? Regards Ken................... "robin l" wrote in message ...
