Display WinXP Address Book in Last Name Order

The answer to your question is yes. The Outlook "Contacts" entries are
displayed correctly (lastname,firstname) according to the "File As" settings,
as long as I stay inside the Contacts folder of Outlook. But if I go to the
Inbox folder and try to address an email by clicking on "To" the "Select
Names" window pops up listing names in the "firstname,lastname" order, even
though the "Show Names from the" field says Outlook Addres Book Contacts. A
very puzzling problem.

Why don't you list the steps you used to correct the problem. I suspect you
still did not do what I suggested in my second 12/9 post. Use those
instructions to set your Sort order to "File As..." and then restart
Outlook.

Russ, I assure you I did what you told me to do in your 12/9 post even
before I posted my first request for help in this forum. I found those
instructions from the Microsoft knowledge base. I tried it, but it did not
solve the problem. The sort order in the "File As" field for Outlook
indicates lastname, firstname, but when address an email the names are sorted
just the opposite.

I apologize. I misread what you said and click on changing the existing
email account rather than changing the existing directory. After I did that,
it fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
