Cannot edit record issue
I'm hoping this is the appropriate group for this, none seemed quite perfect
for this question. I have an Access 2003 front end, which is linked to some SQL Server 2000 tables. One table, Orders, contains a notes column, varchar(5000). This table gets populated by an append query from another table Quotes. In some cases, not often, but enough to drive me nuts, once the record is created by the append query, the notes column becomes "uneditable", that is, everytime someone tries to change any information in that column (and that column only), a Write Conflict error message occurs, offering to copy to clipboard or drop the changes (Save Record is greyed out). This column is not editable in a form, or the linked table, however I can edit it via Enterprise Manager query. Even if I completely remove the notes, which Access will allow, I still get the Write Conflict error when going back to the record and type anything at all in that column. Any other column in the table can be edited without error. This does not happen on every record, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it that I can discover. The length of the notes does not appear to be a factor, as even very short ones can cause this problem, and as I mentioned, if I remove them completely, I am still unable to enter even a single character. In viewing the record in SQL Server EM, after removing the notes per above, the column indicates a NULL value, so there does not appear to be any "residue" in the column. I'm stumped, and any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tom |
