Missing Cabs when Installing full file version of OneNote SP1 (and Office 2003 SP1)
You don't reinstall the entire computer. You just insert the Office 2003
CD, and ask it to reinstall Office. It leaves all your settings, data etc. intact. The whole process takes about ten minutes. -- PT "Simon Cooke" wrote in message ... The problem is that it's really easy to delete the Office .CAB files if you use the Disk Cleanup routine in My Computer. If you do so, Office can no longer be updated, unless you first haul out the O2003 installation CD's, and do a reinstall. It seems to me that this newer setup is really poor. First, it clogs your HD with 250+ MB of files, and second, because they get included automatically in the Disk Cleanup checklist, it's really an accident waiting to happen. To prevent this accident, you should, after reinstalling, load the Disk Cleanup routine in My Computer, and then uncheck the box "Office Setup Files". Unfortunately, I'm not willing to reinstall my entire laptop - I don't have an install CD for OneNote; it comes as part of the Toshiba Restore procedure. |

Missing Cabs when Installing full file version of OneNote SP1 (and Office 2003 SP1)
According to my OEM contacts, the full OneNote image is on the CD Toshiba
provided with your laptop. You should just need to insert that CD into the CDROM drive. The Office 2003 products have a new Local Install Source feature that puts an image of the CD on the local hard drive. When the update cannot locate a needed file in that location, it will request the CD. Once you have inserted the CD, the needed files will be copied, and you should never need to provide the CD again. Sloan Crayton Microsoft "Simon Cooke" wrote in message .. . Whenever I try to install OneNote 2003 SP1 or Office 2003 SP1 full-file service packs, I get "missing CAB file" errors. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have a Toshiba M205 PC, and as such don't have access to the CABs for OneNote, so I can't install the missing files from the install media as I don't have any. Needless to say, I really need the full file version to work. I get similar errors on the Office 2003 SP1 with missing CABs from FrontPage 2003. Thanks, Simon |

Actually, it isn't necessary to reinstall Office. Just insert the CD, and
install SP1, it will automatically copy the needed files. Sloan Crayton Microsoft "PT" wrote in message ... You don't reinstall the entire computer. The site you provided is nonexistent.

What seems more likely is IF you tell it to install the CABs to the HD then it does so and changes the pointer in the registry to point to the location on the HD. Then if you delete the files the pointer points to an empty folder. However, IF you never told it to install the CABs to the HD then the pointer would still point to the CD. Since I don't know what this folder is then I can't tell you where to find the pointer in the registry to modify it. Maybe someone else knows. |

You must be having connectivity issues as it definitely exists. I copied
this URL from the Address bar in Internet Explorer. Sloan Crayton Microsoft "caj" wrote in message ... The site you provided is nonexistent. No way of installing One Note again without doing a complete wipe of the laptop. Do you understand now? |

Simon, my OEM contacts told me that the installation source for OneNote is
on the Toshiba recovery CD. Browse the CD to see if there is a OneNote folder on it. Sloan Crayton Microsoft "Simon Cooke" wrote in message ... No, it doesn't work. It is still missing CAB files no matter which subfolder I point it to on that CD. I just moved house, so I don't have access to my product key for OneNote right now. To install the upgrade I'm guessing I'll have to uninstall OneNote, and reinstall and reactivate, then put on SP1. Can't do that. *sigh* |
