problem opening .csv file
This worked - Thank you so much
The list separator on the problem PC was a semicolon. Changing it to a comma fixed it. The files open successfully now. Australia usually uses the comma in lists, so it must have been changed by a 'helpful' person at some time. Karen -----Original Message----- It might be a difference in your windows regional settings. Windows Start Button|Settings|Control Panel|Regional Settings Applet Click on the Number Tab and check the List Separator. I bet one pc is set for comma and one pc is set for something else (semicolon). If you change this, I think you'll be ok. (But you might want to change the other person's to semicolon.) In the USA, I'd recommend the comma, but I'm not sure what Australia "really" uses. Karen Jack wrote: When I open a .csv file the file opens into one column, ignoring the comma's. When I open the same file on another (my)computer, the file opens correctly, into multiple columns. It seems to be a file association problem, the .csv file extension is associated with excel, but on the problem PC it has a normal excel icon, and on my PC it has the proper .csv icon. How do I get the file type associated not only with excel, but for it to recognize the file type properly. I uninstalled Office and re-installed with no success. Help Karen -- Dave Peterson . |
