07 Design management confusion
Hi....if you are experienced with Access07 ; can you briefly explain the
phenomena when one used the Report Design Wizard all the fields created are "bound" together...and when you go to alter one it alters the entire group.....so to speak... and the data field is "bound" to its label....I can't seem to tweak the label names have floundered around to turn off this field group binding but not sure if it is possible.... tia -- NTC |

When in design view, select the controls, find the "Arrange" Tab, and hit the "Remove" button in the "Control Layout" Group. You should be able to "tweak" the lables, at least the text, even when it is "grouped" as above. If you wish to manipulate them individually, after removing the layout thingie, you can either drag'n'drop from the upper left of the label control, or deattach it (cut/paste). -- Roy-Vidar |

07 Design management confusion
finally got back to this;
tried to follow your instructions - but in design view, select the controls, find the "Arrange" Tab, so far so good and hit the "Remove" button in the "Control Layout" Group. can't find a 'Remove' button and the Control Layout group all seems inactive.... -- NTC "RoyVidar" wrote: NetworkTrade wrote: Hi....if you are experienced with Access07 ; can you briefly explain the phenomena when one used the Report Design Wizard all the fields created are "bound" together...and when you go to alter one it alters the entire group.....so to speak... and the data field is "bound" to its label....I can't seem to tweak the label names have floundered around to turn off this field group binding but not sure if it is possible.... tia I think it is supposed to be one of the "fantastic enhancements" of the 2007 version. Strange. On my setup, it shows the Remove button both in layout view and design view. Only time it is disabled, is when no controls are selected, or the control layout is alredy removed. I e - it looks exactly like how it does in the topic "New control layouts to help create polished forms and reports" here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/he...241851033.aspx But then, I haven't familiarized myself much with this new "feature", yet. Hopefully someone else can give guidance... -- Roy-Vidar |

07 Design management confusion
My mistake; yes you are right - when a control is highlighted then the
Remove button is activated; but when I press that it literally removes that control. My original question is about breaking this group binding that is established via Report Wizard. There is the big group off all the fields that is bound together with a yellow dotted line....and then each individual contro/label is bound together with a yellow dotted line. This yellow dotted line is what I want to get rid of. Not the fields. Let's say I really don't need a label (but do need the field) because the label is obvious to the reader and I need more space for some of the other labels....I can't remove the label without removing the field too that is connected to it with the yellow dotted lines.... ....that's just one instance of where it would be helpful to be able to turn off this yellow dotted line feature; and can't seem to find anyway to turn it off if you have created the report using report wizard.... -- NTC "RoyVidar" wrote: NetworkTrade wrote: finally got back to this; tried to follow your instructions - but in design view, select the controls, find the "Arrange" Tab, so far so good and hit the "Remove" button in the "Control Layout" Group. can't find a 'Remove' button and the Control Layout group all seems inactive.... Comments inline My mistake; yes you are right - when a control is highlighted then the Remove button is activated; but when I press that it literally removes that control. Strange, when I select one control and hit remove, it removes the control from the layout, but not from the report. To remove it from the report, I'll have to select it and hit delete afterwards. But removing one single control from the layout, shows how this "enhancement" works. The rest of the controls in the layout are moved to the left, "over" the controls you've just removed from the layout. You can then select them (maybe through the dropdown in the property sheet?), move them, delete them... My original question is about breaking this group binding that is established via Report Wizard. There is the big group off all the fields that is bound together with a yellow dotted line....and then each individual contro/label is bound together with a yellow dotted line. This yellow dotted line is what I want to get rid of. Not the fields. You don't remove controls through this method, you remove them from the control layout. Select all the controls in this control layout (if you select one control belonging to such control layout, you'll get a little "box" to the left of the leftmost control in this control layout - looks like the "Select Table" box found when working with tables in Word, use that to select all controls), then go to the arrange tab, and hit remove. Now you can manipulate each label and control as you wish. I think that is how the Remove button is supposed to work. -- Roy-Vidar |
