Default mystery sidebar in auto-generated forms?

Could anyone tell me why a sidebar is included in every form I have
Access generate? I cannot find any setting that relates to it. The bar
is visible in Form View and Layout View, but not Design View. When I
click the bar it changes colors as if it is highlighted, but does not
do anything else. I have a form that does not include the sidebar, but
I copied that form from a template and edited it to suit my needs. Any
ideas how I can get rid of the sidebar? I would rather it not be there
if it is not doing anything. I'm sure it is something basic that I am
just overlooking. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here are some pictures of my form:

You have a Continuous View Form and the area in question is the Record
Selector. You click on it to select the record for doing things, such as
deleting the record.

If you don't want it showing, in Design View, goto

Properties - Format

and set the Record Selectors Property to No.
