Default Compress image files in PowerPoint 2003

Powerpoint has an option that allows you to optimize the size of images in a presentation which helps to reduce the size of the overall size of the Powerpoint file.

If I use Powerpoint 2002 to compress images, then the functionality seems to work. But the same functionality does not work when I use Powerpoint 2003 on my laptop - even though that functionality is supposed to work.

To optimize the images in a file, I open the file within Powerpoint. Right click on an image and select Format Object. Select Picture tab and select Compress button. Apply to All Pictures and click on OK.
- when done through Citrix (Powerpoint 2002), the file is reduced to 100Mg
- when done through Powerpoint 2003, the file is only reduced to 197Mg

Any ideas as to why this happens/possible solution for PowerPoint 2003?

Same file in both cases?

And do you have Fast Saves disabled on both versions of PPT (Tools, Options)

Steve,

Thanks for the ideas, I've tried what you suggested, and have only saved 11 megabytes.

Does anybody know if there were any programmatic changes from PPT 2002 to PPT 2003 that might account for this problem? My boss needs to know the answer to this.

Thanks,
Mike Abugow

It's a start. Look at it this way: my first hard drive was smaller than that. ;-)

Not that I can think of offhand, but have you checked all the ideas at:

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00062.htm

If the reviewing feature is turned on, for example, it can bloat your files until
it's turned back off and the file's saved.

Thanks,
