Lining tables between databases - HELP!

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help me with this one;

Currently we have a training database listing employee names and all
training undertaken while they have been in the company (generic training
really, H&S, Management, Office Skills, etc).

We now want to create a Key Skills Database which lists other information
such as whether someone is trained on specific in house equipment (e.g. an
industrial blender), analytical methods, etc (can you guess I work in a Lab?)
- the rationale is that any member of staff will be able to access the
database if they need help with a specific method / piece of equipment and
find out who is trained and to what level so they can go to them for help.

As the training database and key skills database will have the common factor
of employee names, I want to link the employee list from the training
database to the key skills database.

Ideally, I would also like to be able to access information from the
training database and incorperate that into queries.

As the training database is rather large already, and also rather important
we want to keep them seperate.

My questions are these;

1. Would I need to replicate the 'Employee' table in both databases, or can
I use one table for both databases?

2. Can I link tables so that I can use information from one database in a
query in a second database?

3. How do I link tables?! (I have looked through office online and I can
only find information for ADP, not MDB files).

Also, you can use the linked table manager to refresh as needed. You don't
need to duplicate tables, just write queries off the linked tables.

Sorry, I'm using Access 2003, but I'm glad that it can be done without
duplicating tables and information.

You don't mention which version of Access you are using, so the instructions
are necessarily general...

You will use "External" data commands and select "Link" rather than
"Import"... You'll be given a way to select which source you want to link
to...

The linked table manager will work fine. But if you want a more
automated approach to relinking tables, there are lots of free
techniques out there, including our J Street Access Relinker at:
