Access runtime
I'm a little confused about what exactly is required to deploy an
Access MDE to other users who don't have a license. On the granite link it says "The various Microsoft Access Developer Edition versions allow you to ship your own MDB/MDEs and a runtime version of Access royalty free. This means the client does not need to own a copy of Access." which seems to suggest I just need the $499 Developer's Edition and not the Developer's Extension. But then you go to MicroSoft's site and you get "For Access 2003, the Access runtime software is shipped with the Microsoft Office Access 2003 retail product, and the royalty-free Access runtime license is a component of the Access 2003 Developer Extensions. Even though the runtime software is included in the Microsoft Office Access 2003 retail product, the right to distribute the runtime is not included. You must purchase the Access 2003 Developer Extensions to obtain a royalty-free license to package and distribute the runtime." Which seems to suggest you need the $799 extension provided by the Professional version of Visual Studio.net Any idea which is correct or am I missing something? Bill |

There has been a change with the 2003 version: the Developer Edition doesn't
exist anymore and the runtime is now sold as part of the "Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System" or VSTO. The VSTO package also contains some developer extension for Access and a copy of VB.NET standard and SQL-Server 2000 Developer Edition. This is not the professional version of VS.NET. Newsgroup: microsoft.public.vsnet.vstools.office Where to buy: http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/vsto/default.aspx S. L. "Bill" wrote in message oups.com...
