Storing Back End on a Terminal Server
Hello,
I'm almost done with the database I created for approximately 5 users using Access 2007 and verified that all the users have been upgraded to 2007. I intend to split the database, store the back end on a Terminal Server which is running 2003 and distribute the front end to my users. My question is, will the database run fine or does the Terminal Server need to be upgraded to 2007? Thanks in advance for your time. |

Storing the backend database file on a terminal server is a bit unusual as most foiks would put the BE on a file server. That said neither the Terminal Server, if being used as a file server, or a file server needs to have Access installed on it. However if you want to run the Access FE from the Terminal Server then the access will nee to be installed on it. The runtime will suffice if you've purchased the A2003 runtime. Although I should've added that you can also run an A2003 MDE in the free A2007 runtime. You will probably want to disable the ribbon though which can easily be done. I want my database created in A2003 (or before) display my own menubar only. http://www.accessribbon.de/en/index.php?FAQ:7 Tony -- Tony Toews, Microsoft Access MVP Tony's Main MS Access pages - http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm Tony's Microsoft Access Blog - http://msmvps.com/blogs/access/ For a convenient utility to keep your users FEs and other files updated see http://www.autofeupdater.com/ Granite Fleet Manager http://www.granitefleet.com/ |
