none of you employees would have jobs. I.E. 7 is free, but
it is not perfect. We are here to report the problems that some are having
with it. If you don't like it I can let Microsft know that you don't
appreciate its customers.

Are you labouring under the misconception that this group is staffed by MS
employees???

This is a public group valiantly assisted by knowledgeable MS users who
give their time and advice free - usually very good advice. freely.

I'm sure you are not suggesting that the MVP program doesn't produce those
that are beholding and loyal to Microsoft.
Maybe a little insight into the groupie mentality would shed some light.

And which MVPs would you consider to fall into this 'groupie mentality' and
be beholding and loyal to MS.
Shed some light then - if you can???

I'm sorry for this post. I didn't want to offend, annoy or anger any of
you. I just get tired of constantly fighting with software, and this just
pushed me over the edge. Little quirks take too much of my time, and

there are many of them.

Hello Mark
It is always nice to see a poster apologise to the world when they think
they have gone a bit too far. Whether I think that is neither here nor
there. Apart from the 'ranting' side of the thread, there was little I
could see that would offend.
I am sure that 'Horace' was thinking of you and others, when he wrote:-
'Anger is a short madness'.

I have read through this thread of yours, though some may think I might have
had better things to do, and I would like to thank you for putting to the
fore what lots of other software users probably feel, rightly or wrongly,
into words.
However, crossposting did seem excessive - just the IE7 group would have
been fine, and I have learned a couple of things.
I have been able to add a couple of 'trolls' to my kill file'
I have seen that my knowledge of downloading is better than others.
I have also seen the dangers of using ones fingers before engaging brains.
I have discovered that there IS something worse one can do to one's computer
that is more dangerous than just downloading betaware. And that is
downloading betaware and not knowing one has done it!

Absolute Nonsense of course.

The MVP award is given AFTER people have helped, not before, thus it is a
"Thank you" from Microsoft not an incentive.

Most MVPs have in the past been critical of Microsoft but have voiced that
criticism in a constructive manner and have then sought to help users who
have experienced the same problems. I certainly raised many criticisms of OE
in the early days, things like insecure defaults, an inability to choose
plain text etc, and all of these things have been addressed. There are other
annoying things that have not been addressed and almost certainly will not
be addressed, but that's probably because I find them annoying and others
don't.

You are mistaking experience and skill for "Groupie Mentality" by far the
vast majority of the MVP's are here because they enjoy helping others with
their problems and not because of some misguided "Loyalty" to Microsoft.
Sure, we respond to criticism that is stupid or grossly unfair, but you know
as well as I do that many users of MS products are not technical people,
whereas by contrast most users of systems like Solaris and Linus ARE
technical people, so we seek to help those who most need a "friendly" person
to talk it over with.

It would seem that you do have enough knowledge to help others on technical
matters - if only from your own experience of problem solving, so why not
give that a try?

The point is that if an "Update" requires a new EULA it cannot be fully
automatic else the user would be deprived of the choice...

criticize microsoft, becuase I know some of you worship Bill Gates as your
God, but what just happened is beyond absurd. The world is in heap big
trouble with Microsoft at the helm of the software industry.

A little while ago, I got a notice that an update was ready. I didn't
know why I received it, becuase my system was set to receive Automatic
updates, and the caption on the notification said "Automatic Update".
First what is automatic about an update that asks me? Someone out to
knock Bill Gates on the head and ask, "Is anyone in there?". But that
isn't the problem, just a prelude. I'm really the idiote for saying yes
to the update. It was an Internet Exporer v7 update, or so it said. I
said yes, then it asked me if I accept the license, and of course I did.
The next thing I saw was that Internet Explorer V7 was being installed
( I had it installed over a month ago). Then it said it was uninstalling
a previous version and I thought, Uh Oh!!!!!! And rightfully so. I was
asked to restart my computer and naturally I couldn't ignor that request,
becuase it kept coming back and bugging me. So I said yes, and nothing
happened. So I tried to restart and it wouldn't. Finally after a several
attempts I opened the task manager and dumped a bunch of programs then
was able to restart. After I restated, I opened up IE and went to open a
new tab and there weren't any. HUH, I asked myself? No tabs? I like
tabs, what happened? This is what happened, the update uninstalled
version 7 and installed version 6.

Do I need to say any more? I can't, becuase there is no description
suitable to describe this, except, HUH!!!!!

I think Microsoft need some updating of personnel, starting with Bill
Gates and continuing until the last programmer is booted. Keep the
cleaning crew and the cafeteria staff.

Mark, do yourself a favor and just go download I.E. 7 and install it. Don't
worry about all the B.S. in here, as you have done nothing wrong. Be sure to
disable your Antivirus upon install, disable your addons for I.E. 6 that have
to do with any type of Virus or Spyware checking. One good example would be
spywareblaster. Now, you want to also be sure and reenable all this stuff
once you have completed the install.

You should end up with a healthy install of you do it right. Please remember
to not expect I.E. 7 to be perfect, however. You will find some things that
are not quite right, especially on some sights. Be patient and enjoy the
positive of the software until Microsoft can work the kinks out.

Good luck...
