Adding up hours and minutes
I am trying to add up a column of hours and minutes. The
data has been entered as follows: 4.55 6.10 The total should calculate to 11 hours and 5 minutes. Is there a way that excel can recognise hours and minutes and total them accordingly without me having to convert all the numbers to minutes and then total them up etc. Thanks Lynn |

Adding up hours and minutes
Hi Lynn
If you use a colon rather than a point between the numbers, Excel will interpret this as Time. Then you can sum the range of dat to get the total time. Format the cell containing your summation as Custom Format [hh]:mm to allow the result to sum past 24 hours. To convert the data that has already been entered, mark the block of data and do a Search and Replace for "." to ":" (do not include the quotes) -- Regards Roger Govier "Lynn" wrote in message ... Adding up hours and minutes
Hi Lynn
why do you use the point as separator?. If you change this to a colon Excel will recognize your values as time automatically. e.g. 4:55 6:10 Now you can simply add the cells. You may format the target cell with the custom format '[h]:mm' to prevent the rollover after 24 hours HTH Frank Lynn wrote: I am trying to add up a column of hours and minutes.
