embedding SWF files - issue with FrameNum property
Hi,
I embedded SWF files in my powerpoint presentation (2007), but each time I view the powerpoint presentation, the property "frameNum" of the SWF files changes and is set to the last frame of the SWF-movie. I need it to stay on "1", otherwise it doesn't play automatically the next time I view the presentation. Is there a way to achieve that? Thanks, |

Get the Flashback add-in at http://www.mvps.org/skp/
By the way, even though it says it's embedded, that SWF won't play in PPT 2007 unless you have the SWF available at the appropriate path. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com What's new in PPT 2007? http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm Fixing PowerPoint Annoyances http://tinyurl.com/36grcd PowerPoint 2007 Complete Makeover Kit http://tinyurl.com/32a7nx Don't Miss the PPTLive User Conference! YOU cann't directly embed the SWF format file on your powerpoint
presentation. As you want to embed the video file to your presentation: First of all, the embedded video must be in the correct format. Make sure it is either in Windows media file (.wmv) or in .avi format. Save the video on your desktop so that it's easy to embed. If you want to convert your SWF to these video format, you can find out some video converter form "google" • Step 2 Open your PowerPoint presentation. Embed your video by using the "Insert," "Movies and Sounds," and "Movie from File" commands. Navigate to the video file you saved on your desktop and click "OK." • Step 3 When your presentation is finished, save it as a packaged presentation by using the "File," "Save As," PowerPoint Show. This will make it transportable from one computer to the next. Otherwise, the video will only save as a link. If you click on the link to the video on another computer--even if it looks like a square box where the video should be--it will not have point to anywhere as the video was not originally saved on that computer. • Step 4 After having saved, re-open your prepackaged file on another computer to make sure the save worked and the video was transferred. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ................. Thanks Echo S :-) I will try that add-in and check out the other links you've
mentionned. Is there any other way you know to really embed an SWF? Maybe with another add-in? Or will it never work? I'm asking cause the slides will be used to be published to a slide library (through sharepoint), so I guess that all needs to be embedded in order to work... Thanks for you answer Ciciamy.
I don't think the package will work for me as I need to publish the slides to a slide library through sharepoint in order to make them available to other people. Do you have any ideas on how to solve the issue in this particular case? Thanks in advance. "ciciamy" wrote: YOU cann't directly embed the SWF format file on your powerpoint presentation. embedding SWF files - issue with FrameNum property
I believe if you save the file as PPT (97-2003 format), the SWF will embed
and play. See, the SWF is embedded even when you save as 2007 PPTX format, but there's a bug somewhere so it doesn't actually *play*. It's there, but it won't play. But if you save as 97-2003 PPT format, it's there and it will play. I think. Having trouble remembering right now. :-) But that's what I'd try. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com What's new in PPT 2007? http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm Fixing PowerPoint Annoyances http://tinyurl.com/36grcd PowerPoint 2007 Complete Makeover Kit http://tinyurl.com/32a7nx Don't Miss the PPTLive User Conference! 1. Copy the URL of the SWF file you want to insert and save it to a
notepad. For example, if the file name is abc.swf, and the file is located at D:\My Documents, then the file URL should be "D:\My Documents\abc.swf" 2. Insert the SWF file to your PowerPoint presentation. The specific steps may be slightly different in PowerPoint 2003 and 2007. * In PowerPoint 2007, ensure the Developer tab has been enabled. If it isn't, go to Office (the Microsoft logo at the top left of the window) - PowerPoint Options, and tick the checkbox Show Developer tab in the Ribbon in the pop up interface. The next actions are the same in both versions. * Click on the More Controls icon in the Control group. * In the More Controls prompt box, scroll down the list to Shockwave Flash Object and click the item. Then the ActiveX Control is displayed as a crosshair object. 3. Enter the URL of the SWF file to the ActiveX Control item in your presentation. Right click on the crosshair item to select Properties from the list. In the Properties interface, follow these steps: * Find out EmbedMovie and change the item property from "False" to "True" if you want to move the presentation to another computer. * Go to the Movie item and paste the URL of the SWF file (which is saved previously on your notepad) to the right blank. 4. Fine tune the SWF file in the PowerPoint presentation To set specific options for playing the SWF file, do the following in the Properties interface. * If the Playing property is set to True, you can turn it to False to disable the Start/Pause control. * If you don't want the video to play in loop, go to change the Loop property to False. Close the Properties dialog box once it is done. 5. Set the presentation to the "Slideshow" mode to view the SWF flash. Click the Slide Show button in the lower left of the PowerPoint window (or press F5, or click View Show in the Slide Show menu,) to run the SWF flash. embedding SWF files - issue with FrameNum property
I have a slightly different issue with the FrameNum property. Every .swf file I insert has default FrameNum -1. Once I enter SlideShow mode it runs ok, and loops fine.
I want to print presentations without entering SlideShow mode, which means I need the default FrameNum to be 0 when I load the program so the flash is visible on the slide rather than just being a white square. Does anyone know how to change the default FrameNum? (i've tried just entering "0" in the FrameNum field but it reverts back to -1 once you close PowerPoint) Echo S wrote: embedding SWF files - issue with FrameNum property 31-Aug-09 Get the Flashback add-in at http://www.mvps.org/skp/ By the way, even though it says it is embedded, that SWF will not play in PPT 2007 unless you have the SWF available at the appropriate path. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com What's new in PPT 2007? http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm Fixing PowerPoint Annoyances http://tinyurl.com/36grcd PowerPoint 2007 Complete Makeover Kit http://tinyurl.com/32a7nx Don't Miss the PPTLive User Conference! embedding SWF files - issue with FrameNum property
For printing purposes, I'd probably take a screenshot of the frame I want
and paste it onto the slide. Crop as necessary. The SWF will come to the top "layer" of the slide when it plays, so that won't be a problem. You can also give the screengrab an automatic exit animation if you want so it doesn't really show in Slide Show View. If the SWF still shows when printing (like the edges peek out or something) and you're printing in B/W or Grayscale, you can set the SWF to "don't show" so it doesn't print. Go to View | B/W or Grayscale and select the SWF and choose Don't Show from the B/W or Grayscale options. -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com What's new in PPT 2007? http://www.echosvoice.com/2007.htm Fixing PowerPoint Annoyances http://tinyurl.com/36grcd PowerPoint 2007 Complete Makeover Kit http://tinyurl.com/32a7nx "Paul Froggatt" wrote in message ... The specific steps may be slightly different in PowerPoint 2003 and 2007. * In PowerPoint 2007, ensure the Developer tab has been enabled. If it is not, go to Office (the Microsoft logo at the top left of the window) - PowerPoint Options, and tick the checkbox Show Developer tab in the Ribbon in the pop up interface. * If you do not want the video to play in loop, go to change the Loop property to False. Close the Properties dialog box once it is done. 5. Set the presentation to the "Slideshow" mode to view the SWF flash. Click the Slide Show button in the lower left of the PowerPoint window (or press F5, or click View Show in the Slide Show menu,) to run the SWF flash.
