Can't Edit presentation- read only embedded font
I copied a presentation from my desk top to my laptop via a flash drive. When I open the PP file a message appears telling me that I can not edit the presentation because it contains a read only embedded font. Please tell me how I can work around this as I need to be able to edit and work on the presentation on my lap top. Thanks

Can't Edit presentation- read only embedded font
Are you using PowerPoint 2003 on both systems? It's a new "feature" that
we're all grumbling about. In the meantime the work around would be to install the needed fonts on your laptop, or avoid fonts that are not on both systems. You'll need to open the presentation on your desktop and change the fonts in that case. -- Sonia, MS PowerPoint MVP Team Autorun CD software, templates, and tutorials http://www.soniacoleman.com/ "crashman2u" wrote in message ... Can't Edit presentation- read only embedded font
sonia's spot on crashman2u,
since you never had problems with the font on the origianl machine there is no authoring/ copyrgiht restrictions embedding the font. install the font on your portable, but please make sure you have a font license to do so for whatever font you are using as it seems that you are using a non system font. you can learn more about fonts and licensing issues at http://www.123powerpoint.com/faqs_fonts.asp, though this refers mainly to our fonts, general copyright rules apply to all fonts. Can't Edit presentation- read only embedded font
since you never had problems with the font on the origianl machine there is no authoring/ copyrgiht restrictions embedding the font. Slight correction: there must be embedding restrictions on the font or PowerPoint wouldn't be complaining about it. There are several levels of embedding permitted - the least restrictive level permits an embedded font to be installed on the target system, but more often fonts are restricted to a kind of "display-only" editing that allows you to view and print the file using the embedded font, but not edit it. And that's what PPT2003 is complaining about. If the font embedding permissions disallow editing, then PPT2003 will open the presentation as read only. install the font on your portable, but please make sure you have a font license to do so for whatever font you are using as it seems that you are using a non system font. you can learn more about fonts and licensing issues at http://www.123powerpoint.com/faqs_fonts.asp, though this refers mainly to our fonts, general copyright rules apply to all fonts.
