How do I contact MS for Pub 2003 help if it was pre-installed
Actually, dear Box, you're already in a very good place if you have a
specific question. You are more than welcome to ask darned near any Publisher-related question here. Most questions are answered within a few hours. (Everybody has to sleep at some point.) Unfortunately you've discovered a *major* problem with buying OEM software - nobody wants to claim responsibility for support. The trade-off? You may have paid less than full retail price for the software. I'm not saying this is fair, but this is the way it is. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "Box" wrote in message ... You're telling me that if I have a Publisher specific issue, such as 'how do I insert page numbers?' HP is going to provide that support? OEM software is OEM software and is supported by OEMs. MS isn't the only one my friend. Had you bought Publisher RETAIL you would get the same service and support as you would Adobe Pagemaker. -- Brian Kvalheim Microsoft Publisher MVP http://www.publishermvps.com ~pay it forward~ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. How do I contact MS for Pub 2003 help if it was pre-installed
If the program is an OEM version, that means that HP buys it very cheaply from
MS and installs it on the machines they sell. In turn for the reduced price that HP gets from MS, HP is required to provide technical support for the program -- they have to spend their bucks to train their TS people on Publisher. That's how OEM works. You may think it's stupid, but you get your software cheaper that way. OTOH, if you paid extra for the program (probably paid regular retail price), HP has just served as the vendor. In that case, MS will support the program. All of that said, this newsgroup is NOT Microsoft Technical Support. MS has Tech Support phone numbers to call for that. You should be able to find them on the MS web site if there's nothing in your program documentation. MS may host the newsgroup on their servers, but it is not staffed by paid MS employees. The people who answer questions here are just other users, like you. On Fri, 30 Jul 2004 11:09:01 -0700, Box wrote: Congratulations, you're wrong. I just called HP and they said I have to talk to you. I ordered an HP desktop and paid extra to have Publisher installed. I just can't believe that you provide no facility for email support in this situation. Stop and think about that for a second. How is someone supposed to get support in this situtation? "Brian Kvalheim - [MSFT MVP]" wrote: Hi Box ), in the newsgroups you posted: || You're telling me that if I have a Publisher specific issue, such as || 'how do I insert page numbers?' HP is going to provide that support? Yup. Not sure if they will charge ya, but yup. That is what is called OEM and OEM support. -- Brian Kvalheim Microsoft Publisher MVP http://www.publishermvps.com ~pay it forward~ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. |

Watch your "tone of voice", Box. As I said in another reply, the folks who are
answering your questions are other users like you. They aren't MS employees. If you want to talk to the latter, to to the MS web site. How do I contact MS for Pub 2003 help if it was pre-installed
Box wrote:
Or how about the one regarding universal widow and orphan control? You are an idiot! 1) This isn't Microsoft. It is a peer-to-peer newsgroup. MS employees do not post here and, in the unlikely even that someone from MS does, they post here in their own time, and not as a representative or spokesperson for MS. 2) You have an OEM (that's Original /Equipment/ Manufacturer - i.e. HP) licence. This means that HP (regardless of what they tell you) is the first, last and only means of support. MS does not, cannot and, indeed, will not support OEM licensed software. Suggest you read the EULA. Paragraph five states: - "PRODUCT SUPPORT. SOFTWARE support for the SOFTWARE is not provided by MS, Microsoft Corporation, or their affiliates or subsidiaries. For product support, please refer to Manufacturer's support number provided in the documentation for the HARDWARE. Should you have any questions concerning this EULA, or if you desire to contact Manufacturer for any other reason, please refer to the address provided in the documentation for the HARDWARE (i.e. your computer manual)." 3) All the questions you've asked can be answered by using the very extensive help. I don't see why we should waste our time answering questions you could have answered yourself using the resources at your disposal. But you're too lazy to help yourself, obviously. |
