Default Downloading hotmail w/out uploading contacts?

Am I correct - We now must install and use Outlook Connector when
downloading/checking hotmail email with Outlook?

I tried that today and it seemed to work. However, it also took 20 minutes
because it wanted to sync up all my outlook contacts and calendar and post
them to the hotmail/live server.

Is there anyway to use this new and improved outlook connector without
providing microsoft with my calendar info and all my contacts?

I just want to check the 'ole hotmail account - and NOT provide microsoft
with all my personal information...

You can use pop3 set-up. This downloads only your messages. Read this
article:

Especially the item marked: "Add a Hotmail POP3 account in Outlook 2003/2007"

Thanks Expert.

Leave it to Microsoft to fix something that isn't broken. Maybe it's time to
move on from hotmail.

Note that the Outlook Connector only syncs the Calendar and Contact
information that you have put into your Hotmail account on-line. Any new
contacts or appointments that you put in those sync folders will then be of
course synced back to the server.

If you do not want this, simply place your contacts and appointment in a
calendar that is outside your Live Hotmail folder set or indeed, as "Expert"
said, use the POP3 connection instead.
