Shape Text - only moves diagonally

Whe I add a shape in Visio 2007, and add text to that shape, the control
handle (little yellow diamond) only allows me to move the text along an
imaginary diagonal line whigh runs through the centre of the shape, so I can
only position the text at 45 degrees or 225 degrees from the centre of the
shape. Can anyone tell me what setting I need to change to get free movement
of this text anywhere around the shape?

What shape is this? Is it one shape in particular or every shape?

Select the shape and menu Window - Show Shapesheet
and look at the Controls section.
What are the values/formulae in the X/Y, X/Y Dynamics and X/Y
Behaviour cells?
