Convert text to table in columns instead of rows
I have a long list of sorted names that I want to put into a table 3 columns by 33 rows. I want the names to read down the first column until row 33, then move to the 2nd column insert 33 more names, and then the third column. However, when I select the list and the choose convert text to table, Word inserts the names into the table by going across instead of down. Is there any way to tell Word to insert the names down then across instead of across and then down?

Convert text to table in columns instead of rows
Dan,
To do that is a somewhat convoluted process. Even better, IMHO, convert to a single column table. Select the table, then FormatColumns, set to 3 text columns. Now if you should need to re-sort the list, you don't have to play any games to get the list back into a sortable layout. Regards, Chad "Dan" wrote in message ... Moreover, it's possible you don't need a table at all if this is just a list
of names; the snaking columns alone may be all you need. -- Suzanne S. Convert text to table in columns instead of rows
Not sure about previous versions but in 2000 after you
create a single column table, highlight a series of table cells, and drag them up the way you would move cells in Excel. If you drag them slighly off to the side of the first column, you will automatically create a second (or third or ...) column on the fly. |
