Formatting TOCs in Word 2000
Something funny happens when I use F9 to update a table of contents: a rogue tab pops up at 1.14" on TOC2 - but only in the second half of the table. Even then, it only visually affects one TOC2 heading and what it does is remove the tab leader and the right alignment of the page number for that one heading.
I can correct it by amending the tab setting in the TOC2 style, but every time I use F9 the error recurs. Any suggestions? |

Sorry - correction:
If I access the tab settings through Format/Style/TOC2/Modify, the dialogue box doesn't recognise the existence of the rogue tab. But it is listed if I access tabs through Format/Tabs, so I can delete it that way - or I can apply the format painter. Richard. |

Thanks, Suzanne. That website pointed me in the right direction: it looks as though there was a problem with the outline numbering in the body of the document. I re-formatted the numbering in all my headings and created a new TOC and that seems to have done the trick.
