separate windows in Excel 2003
Is there a way in Excel 2003 to bring up spreadsheets in separate windows
instead of all spreadsheets in windows within a parent window? I think it used to work this way. |

There's an option (added with xl2k) that allowed separate windows within the
same instance: Tools|options|view tab|Check Windows in Taskbar. StrickCSI wrote: Is there a way in Excel 2003 to bring up spreadsheets in separate windows instead of all spreadsheets in windows within a parent window? I think it used to work this way. -- Dave Peterson |

ToolsOptionsView "Windows in Taskbar" will give you Icons on the Taskbar for
each open Window. Gord Dibben Excel MVP On Mon, 4 Oct 2004 14:19:03 -0700, StrickCSI wrote: Is there a way in Excel 2003 to bring up spreadsheets in separate windows instead of all spreadsheets in windows within a parent window? I think it used to work this way. |

What I am looking for is a separate instance of Excel wheneverI double click
on an excel file instead of a new window inside the Excel window with an icon on the taskbar. Word 2003 now works this way, can Excel be made ot operate in this mode? You could try:
Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (check it) I don't use Word 2003, but Word2002 only runs one instance--but the windows (menubars) do make it look like separate instances. (File|Exit will close all the documents open in that instance.) And by having multiple instances, things become a little more difficult.
Try copy|pastespecial|formulas from one instance to the other (for example). I like one instance. Dave,
I tried that. It brings up separate instances, but the windows come up empty - no spreadsheet. I then have to go open the spreadsheets by hand. Enabling this option is one way to fix this problem.
Maybe you could just start a new instance, then file|open your workbooks. windows start button|run excel starts that separate instance for me--or just a shortcut to excel.exe on the desktop???
