Default Winfax 2.0 in Outlook 2000

I have win 98SE with Outlook 2000 and have been successfully sending and
receiving faxes utilizing the Winfax 2.0 that comes with Outlook. I recently
added a distinctive ring fax line to my home phone service and configured my
modem accordingly. I can still send faxes and I can do a manual receive but
the automatic receive no longer works. When I receive a fax call the fax
window pops up and says it is receiving the fax but it doesn't. It hangs up
the line almost immediately after picking up the call, it doesn't even send
out any fax tones. If I turn the distinctive ring feature back off, in the
modem configuration, the automatic receive works properly. I need to be able
to receive faxes and phone messages on the same phone line while I am not
here.

Do you know if the newer versions of Winfax SE support distinctive ring, or
Winfax Pro? Would I be better off changing to some other software?

No current operating systems support distinctive ring.
The alternative is to install an external switching device to your phone
