Chapter number in footers to use Alphabetic Character

I need to set page numbers in the footer that have the format: A - 1, A - 2,
A - 3, B - 1, etc. and these should also be reflected in the TOC.

I have inserted a SEQ field in the chapter headings, and the format page
number gives the option to include chapter numbers, but doesn't allow me to
select the alpha character option.

This is for a fairly lengthy document so a manual workaround is the last
resort.
Help will be greatly appreciated.

SEQ fields won't get it. You have to apply auto numbering (outline
numbering) to your heading if you want the numbering to be picked up in the
