Default Word Viewer 2003 Warning

I have Word 2003 installed.
I have Word Viewer 2003 installed.
I have created a document in Word 2003 and Saved As in XML format.
I have changed the file extension to 'aaa' and associated Word Viewer 2003
with this extension so it opens automatically.
When I go to open it I get a warning: Could not change document template.
When I press OK the document then proceeds to open successfully.
Any ideas what causes this problem and how to solve it?

Regards
Graeme Wellington

May I ask why you want/need to change the extension?

So that the document will open in the viewer instead of in Word.

Ah, so it was just done as a test for the viewer, not because for some
reason the OP wanted/needed a different extension?

Correct - It was just done for a test to get viewer to open it by default.
