Dear All,
Could you please recommend me a cheap, easy to use reporting/intelligence business tool, which can easily access MS access database? Thanks in advance -- Message posted via AccessMonster.com http://www.accessmonster.com/Uwe/For...ccess/200901/1 |

"easy to use" (for whom?!?)
Is there a reason Access doesn't fulfill this need? Regards Jeff Boyce Microsoft Office/Access MVP "spieters via AccessMonster.com" u10751@uwe wrote in message news:8fbd2e04b3f64@uwe... Use Microsoft Access reports where possible.
For web based reporting: low end: - Active Reports - Crystal reports high end (list is large, here are my favorites) - SQL Server reporting services - Business Objects - Cognos For OLAP: - SQL Server Analysis Services in conjunction with Proclarity (now folded into Microsoft's BI product), panorama or xlcubed or - Essbase and the standard excel addin You can build SQL Server Analysis cubes off Microsoft Access databases and then slice and dice the data using a product like proclarity or XL3. That's a quick list of a few options, not sure exactly what you are looking at when you say "reprting/intelligence" Note: Most serious BI efforts involve getting into Data warehousing concepts. Perhaps start with xlcubed and ask them about "cheap" ways to do what you want. Also:
For OLAP: - SQL Server Analysis Services in conjunction with _EXCEL_ is the best cheapest option, IMHO On Jan 5, 10:22*am, "Mark Andrews" wrote: Use Microsoft Access reports where possible. Access probably wouldn't fit into _ANY_ companies requirements for BI
because of these factors: - web based - scalability - performance - maintainability On Jan 5, 9:43*am, "Jeff Boyce" wrote: "easy to use" (for whom?!?) Excel alone is not bad. I always went straight to using a more robust addin
such as XL3. Only had Office 2003. Maybe Office 2007 is better. I usually used the ProClarity Desktop which was my favorite OLAP client. Haven't tried anything since Microsoft bought ProClarity. However Excel alone is cheaper. A few hundred bucks for every user with any of the other OLAP clients. Analysis Services is very nice. I prefer it over Essbase. Office Web Components (a component in Data Access Pages) is actually
superior to Excel in a half dozen manners For example; if you have a physical dimension, Year, Quarter, Month-- you can remove Quarter from that hierarchy in OWC and it's gone. In Excel you really cannot do this. -Aaron On Jan 5, 2:36*pm, "Mark Andrews" wrote: Excel alone is not bad. *I always went straight to using a more robust addin such as XL3. *Only had Office 2003. *Maybe Office 2007 is better. And yes-- Analysis Services is _VERY_ nice.
I was an Olap DBA for a large insurance company; I've built hundreds of cubes, I just love that platform. Too bad that MS Access doesn't have a future, because it would have been nice to see Olap brought downstream to MS Access. -Aaron On Jan 5, 2:36*pm, "Mark Andrews" wrote: Excel alone is not bad. *I always went straight to using a more robust addin such as XL3. *Only had Office 2003. *Maybe Office 2007 is better. I only used OWC a little. The company I was working for bought Proclarity
desktop and Proclarity server and then started using SQL Server Reporting Services so didn't really need to look at OWC. Hey none of that Access talk. I still like using Access for a large number of solutions. I just wish it was a tiny bit better on the form design tools and out of the box controls. Mark,
It's just Aaron's way... all he knows how to do is downgrade Access. -- Gina Whipp "I feel I have been denied critical, need to know, information!" - Tremors II "Mark Andrews" wrote in message ...
