Default How Add Row Number

Have a large Access table 3 million rows. I tried to add a row number field
but get an error "File sharing lock count exceeded...". Should I be able to
do this?

Al

How many fields do you have in that table?

How many (maximum possible) bytes in each record? How many bytes in the
longest record?

What you mean by "row number field" and what I mean may not be the same.
Care to share?

Are you attempting to change the design of the table, or are you creating a
new (empty) table with the new field and using an append query to load it
up?

More info, please!

Regards
