Default PST Backup Tool Office 2003 Broken?

I have several machines running XP Pro & Office 2003.
After installing the MS PST Backup tool (2003), the File -Backup
feature is nowhere to be found??? I've looked under the File menu for
Backup and uninstalled reinstalled, rebooted etc over & over.

No Luck. PST Backup won't run on these PC's period.

I've tried on a freshly loaded XP Pro PC with Office 2003 and 2003 PST backup tool loaded fresh, same result, no File -Backup option???

If I look under Tools - Options - Other -Advanced Options -COM Add Ins...
It shows Outlook Backup Addin, which is not checked directly after installing it???

I then have checked the Outlook Backup Addin and hit ok and Ok and it doesn't
make any difference that I've check it, the File-Backup feature is not there at all &
when I go back to COM Add-Ins the feature still shows that it's unchecked even after exiting and restarting etc....

If it makes any difference the location of the "always unchecked" Outlook backup Addin shows:
Location: C:\PRORGA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\Addins\outbak.dll
Load behavior: Load at startup

Like I said before, this bug is on several different PC's running XP Pro & office 2003
using different user accounts, we're running Exchange 2000.

Needless to say I'm going nuts on this one...
What a mess!

Go to one of the failing machines and check this registry entry:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

See what the value is for NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation If it is set to 1, change it to 0 and re-try the PFBackup Installation.

Please let us know if that works for you.

Default PST Backup Tool Office 2003 Broken?

Well, I figured it out ...FINALLY!!!
Geez, (sarcasm)
I can't wait to rollout Office 2003 now!

Solution:
1)Exit Outlook
2)Uninstall PST Backup Tool 2003
3)Open Outlook and go to Tools, Options, Other (Tab), Advanced Options, COM Add-Ins… Under Add-Ins Available: (You should not see Outlook Backup Add-in on the list) if so, then you’ll need to search the registry for outbak.dll and delete it from the registry.
4)Click Add (once the Add-ins available… list is blank) and this will open the Add Add-In window. Browse to: (wherever you've saved the 2003 PST Backup tool) choose the file pfbackup.exe
5)This will open the PST backup installer and run you through the normal installation routine.
6)Then, you should see File-Backup option show up and be able to run the PST backup tool successfully.
