Default Conditional formating

Is there a possibility to set up conditional formating based on formulas
connecting files other than the target?

Ex: Highlighting all cells in a column where the value of a given cell is
not represented in a data range in another file?

Thanks,
Ivo

Conditional formatting can work on a separate workbook.

All attempts to use conditional formating with references outside the sheet
bring up a message:

You may not use references to other worksheets or workbooks for Conditional
Formatting criteria.

My can should have been can't sorry.

You can use CF to reference another sheet as long as you assign an Excel
Name to the range on that other sheet (InsertNameDefine), and use that
name in the CF formula.
