Default Outlook 2003: searching mail servers cancelled on testing acount

New installation of slipstreamed WindowsXP SP3 with IE7.
No additional Firewall and/or anti-virus program installed yet.
Outlook 2003 (Office component) installed. On testing account settings
"searching mail server cancelled". So, can not connect to mailservers.
Needs Outlook 2003 an installed Outlook Express? Or are only some files of
OE needed? If yes, which files?

Default Outlook 2003: searching mail servers cancelled on testing acount

Have you added the mail account using info supplied by your ISP?
Outlook is completely seperate from Outlook Express, which is a component of
the o/s and IE

Default Outlook 2003: searching mail servers cancelled on testing acou

Thanks for reply.
I used the mail account setings of working Outlook setup on another PC,
where these settings work. Also settings of an other e-mail account do not
work.
If I do a clean install of non-slipstreamed WinXP without IE7 Outlook 2003
can find the mail servers on "finding server" after the message "network
connection established". The last message is also shown in the setup where
Outlook can not find the mail servers on testing accounts.
Elsewhere I found some hints that Outlook (2003) does need Outlook Express
or other components, which are removed bij IE7. You disagree with that
information?
It regards an installation on an Asus eeePC. So, installation size is
critical.
An installation of Windows Live Mail is working in the troubled situation of
Outlook 2003.

Default Outlook 2003: searching mail servers cancelled on testing acou

After a fresh Windows XP installation (only SP3 and drivers slipstreamed; not
IE7) and a Office 2003 installation, Outlook 2003 works fine. No
"cancellation" of "finding servers" during "testing accounts settings"
anymore.
After that installation of IE7 (over IE6 with Outlook Express) no troubles
with Outlook 2003.
So, I think slipstreaming IE7 caused a "mail server finding" problem for
Outlook 2003.

Now, IE7 and Outlook 2003 coexist also on this PC. However, originally it was
IE6 (with Outlook Express) and Outlook 2003.
I wonder if DL's installation was IE7 and Outlook 2003 from the beginning
(without any installation IE6 with Outlook Express before).
