"Save Picture As" quit working
I have been using IE6 as my newsgroup reader since I've
had this PC (September 2003). I use Windows XP Home Edition. This problem pertains to reading Newsgroup messages. Previously the way it worked: If there was a picture attachment to the message and I wanted to save the picture, I would right click on the picture and then left click on "Save picture As...". It would then bring up the "Save Picture" dialog box with the picture name in the "File name" area and the correct extension in the "Save as type" area (jpg, bmp, etc.). I would point to the folder where I wanted to save the picture and this would then be the default folder throughout the session. All of a sudden it stopped working. Now when the "Save Picture" dialog box comes up, the "File name" is always "untitled" and the file type is always "BMP". It doesn't let me change the file type to the correct file type. In order to save it correctly, I now have to click on the paper clip in the upper right corner of the preview pane and click "Save Attachments". It brings up the "Save attachments" dialog box with the correct file name and type but I have to keep changing the default folder each time I want to save a picture (it defaults to "my documents" which is not where I want to save the picture). It doesn't keep the folder I selected the first time I save a picture. Can somebody help me on getting the "Save Picture As" to go back to working like it used to? I have not upgraded anything for the last couple of weeks. I have not yet installed Windows XP SP2. |

The problem I think is with Internet Explorer, as OE will use IE's
"Temporary Internet files" folder for the download. Open your browser and delete the files from the TIF or Internet cache. This should cure the problem. Post back and let us know. Hi Len,
This is a known issue with Internet Explorer. The steps to resolve the issue for IE may well help with the Outlook Express problem. Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format http://support.microsoft.com/default...650&product=ie One workaround for the My Documents default save folder is to put a shortcut for your preferred folder in My Documents. Double-clicking on the shortcut during the save routine will allow saving in that folder. It may be necessary to reenter the name for the file to be saved after using the shortcut. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MVP - (IE/OE) Lynnwood, WA * "Len" wrote in message ... Thanks for your suggestion but immediately after I posted
this message, I started Outlook Express again and lo and behold it worked like it should. If this problem re- occurs, I will take your advise and delete the IE temp files.
