Many people have explained in thread where you went wrong. Download and
install IE7 again.

Kerry,

There was no Beta warning when I installed V.7. I wouldn't have
installed it. If the page wasn't the same page as I posted, then it
was similar. It was on the Microsoft homepage. But regardless, what
do I know? And why does it matter that it is a beta. The update said
it was a V7 update and it installed v6. It's a little backward. I
wasn't told it would do this, but the initial message said it was an
v7 update, like a simple update.

The page where you downloaded your previous version of IE7 was a
different page. A month ago there were clear warnings about
installing a beta product.

let's get this in perspective:

1) You installed a BETA product
2) You complain when you are using your computer and it alerts you
that it's about to install updates while you are using your
computer 3) The update is for a BETA product
4) Your BETA test machine doesn't perform properly

What part of BETA don't you understand - if you are not prepared to
deal with problems then don't run BETA software.

If you are prepared to deal with problems associated with BETA
software you should have posts your statements as "I've tried to
install IE7 BETA update and I'm having problems".

Your first paragraph makes you appear to be trolling.

I fail to see your reason for crossposting this to the Outlook newsgroup

I do not understand your statements:

"That was an update that is related to
IE7, but not the setup program for IE7 (that is a different window and
has a Restart button as well after it's done). When you clicked Restart
Now and then proceeded to kill tasks, you effectively killed the IE7
setup program."

Mark told you this:

"I was asked to restart my computer and
naturally I couldn't ignor that request, becuase it kept coming back and
bugging me. So I said yes, and nothing happened."

The uninstall routine from the beta had completed and asked him to restart.
His computer did not/could not do so, so he was forced to try and make it do
so manually. I'm a computer professional and would have done the same.
Apparantly a reboot was needed, so what would you have done? Also, any open
tasks that are running will get killed anyway when the system is rebooted
either through a routine, or manually like Mark did. It is setup in the boot
routine to begin again upon the reload of Windows. Your statement that Mark
did someting wrong here does not ring true.

Now, he is/was confused about what took place here as I.E. 6 was back on his
computer the way it was supposed to be at the time. At the very least, had
Mark done something funky to the I.E. 7 setup routine, Auto Update would have
seen that I.E. 7 was not installed and been ready to be installed again.
Something did not complete here for Mark at no fault of his own. He was asked
to reboot, so he did.

Folks, there are people having trouble with I.E. 7 pre, and/or post install.
I have had no major issues either way, but I did not use Auto Update either.
There are most certainly bugs in I.E. 7 that need to be worked out, major or
not, and like it or not. Now, I am a BIG Microsft fan, but some of you are
ignoring the facts and being down-right rude to Mark. The comments made by
Pegasus were especially rude and uncalled for. Sometimes comments about a
product can, and should give you a clue to check it out. There does not have
to be a question when you can clearly see that something is wrong.

We are all the life behind Microsoft. Without our money to buy the things
that are not free, none of you employees would have jobs. I.E. 7 is free, but
it is not perfect. We are here to report the problems that some are having
with it. If you don't like it I can let Microsft know that you don't
appreciate its customers.

not really, but I guess he is probably glad that you compare him as a
God.... did you forward this to him ?

, but
what just happened is beyond absurd. The world is in heap big trouble

with
Microsoft at the helm of the software industry.

is that why you are using MS yourself.... and for how long are you using
Microsoft products ... if I may ask ?

A little while ago, I got a notice that an update was ready. I didn't

yep, read it again....
1) "I got a notice that an update was ready"
2) "I didn't know why I received it"
3) "my system was set to receive Automatic updates" -- BINGO !

First what is
automatic about an update that asks me?

Please see : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306525

Someone out to knock Bill Gates on
the head and ask, "Is anyone in there?".

Really?, first read up on the particular function feature before you give
out (please)

But that isn't the problem, just a
prelude. I'm really the idiote for saying yes to the update. It was an
Internet Exporer v7 update, or so it said. I said yes, then it asked me

if
I accept the license, and of course I did.

without reading it ? just click on "OK" on all boxes ever presented to you ?
-- good going ! really !

The next thing I saw was that
Internet Explorer V7 was being installed ( I had it installed over a

month
ago).

1 month ago V7 was beta, so you did not install V7, you installed V7-beta

Then it said it was uninstalling a previous version and I thought, Uh
Oh!!!!!! And rightfully so. I was asked to restart my computer and
naturally I couldn't ignor that request, becuase it kept coming back and

next time posting you might want to give us some details on "a bunch of
programs" ?
just so genuine people on these newgroups might try to actually help
you.....

After I restated, I
opened up IE and went to open a new tab and there weren't any. HUH, I
asked myself? No tabs? I like tabs, what happened? This is what

happened,
the update uninstalled version 7 and installed version 6.

OK, that is the closest we come in this post to a problem statement, or at
least an attempt to.

Do I need to say any more?

Yes please, do say more.... the world is waiting for posts like this

I can't, becuase there is no description
suitable to describe this, except, HUH!!!!!

I think Microsoft need some updating of personnel, starting with Bill

that will solve all problems, including cancer and world hunger....

When someone starts a post with 'I know some of you worship Bill Gates as
your God' and cross-posts to five newsgroups, three of which have absolutely
no relation to the problem at hand at all, they diminish their chances of
getting helpful responses. Under the circumstances I think most of those who
responded showed patience and tolerance. Personally, I would not give the
time of day to anyone ill-mannered enough to speculate about who or what I
might 'worship'.

There was nothing wrong with IE7. That isn't the issue. The issue is the
update. It misrepresented what would happen. It stated that it was an
"update" for Internet Explorer 7, not a replacement.

Ok, so it's not beta any more, but it was when you downloaded it the
first time, so the reply I made stands.

Also, you should know enough to NOT install new software until it's been
on the street for 6 months, unless it meets a mission critical need.

Mark,

I know you've been posting in these groups for years. By now you certainly
know not to post across and to newsgroups that bear no relation to the
topic. I only see one newsgroup that bears any semblance to your subject.
