Default Outlook 11.0.5510

I have some clients that I advise who are using Outlook,
Build 11.0.5510. There are some ways in which vCard
contacts, do not integrate perfectly with this version.
Is it correct that 5510 is a pre-release version and not
an RTM such as Outlook, Build 11.5608.5703? How does one
upgrade a pre-release version to an RTM?

You can always check build numbers at
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2003.htm#versions . To upgrade, you would
need to purchase and install a retail or volume license copy of Outlook or
Office.

Why do you think RTM will do a better job with vCards?

Thanks for the response. So I understand, current
purchasers of Office would most likely get build 5608.5703
rather than 5510 (which I also understand might be Build
11.0.5608.5606 but that build reports itself in the X-
Mailer header information as Build 11.0.5510)

The issue is somewhat strange, but with 5510 when a vCard
is sent to a user with 5510, if the vCard has information
in the "notes" area of the contact entry/sender (such as
text or a hyperlink) that information gets stripped out of
the notes area for the recipient. That does not happen
with 5608.5703. The information in the "notes" area is
received in tact by the recipient who is using 5608.5703.
Any ideas why that is? Thanks for the help--my clients
often use the "notes" area to transmit information, which
is hindered by 5510's characteristics.

Actually, RTM Outlook creates vCards with Notes OK, but can't *read*
anything in the Notes area of a vCard. Hopefully, that will be fixed in an
upcoming service pack.

This is correct. You need to check Help, About to get the version number,
although I think only 5608 reports 5510 in the header.

Thanks so much. I appreciate the great responsiveness.
Hope the service pack comes out soon. And, I hope you get
some kudos for identifying an issue that can make the
product better. Have a great day.
