Default Absolute vs relative paths for linked images.

I'm inserting a picture as a link in Word and in some cases it stores an
absolute path and in other cases it stores the relative path. I want to force
an absolute path for my situation. Is there any way to do this?

I understand the approach you're suggesting but I was thinking of something a
little more automatic like a switch or setting. Thanks for your response.
