Default Record number in Mail Merge

I want to use an Autonumber field as my Record Number instead of the Access
Table Record number. The starting value for the Autonumber field is 400,
which is Access Table record 1.

When I perform a Mail Merge to a Word document I have to select the Access
Record Number rather than a record using the Autonumber field, i.e i have to
enter record no.1 in the mail merge query box rather than 400 as I want to.

Is there a way to alter the record number in access to reflect the
Autonumber field?

Any help appreciated!!

The record number and autonumber fields are not to be used by the end user.
They are internal controls only. If you want a useable number, create one.
Make a field called CustomerNumber or EmployeeNumber or similar. Enter the
value you want in the field.

Note. The post two entries below yours with the topic "Autonumber lost its
sequence" explains further what autonumbers are used for.
