Default Wanting to seperate existing columns

I have created a very long document in two columns. I would like to seperate
the document by column, thus creating two documents. Is this even possible?

if your whole document is 2 columns only, and in one section, you can
easily select the first column (say, in Normal view). And delete it.
Then save as "column2.doc".

Repeat the process with the original (for column #2 -- "column1.doc").
