Default Cannot always edit Visio object from Word

I'm collaborating with others who are pasting Visio drawings into a shared
Word document and find that I can only edit the drawings that I pasted.

1) If I pasted the drawing:
Right click Select: Visio Object Select: Open = Launches Visio (good)

2) If I did not paste the drawing:
Right click Select: Microsoft Visio Drawing Object Select: Convert
Select: OK = Error: "Server, application, source file could not be found"
message. (not good)

Notes:
I receive two different menu options and the only option under scenario #2
is "Convert".

We are all using the standard paste method and I've verified that the
drawing creator can edit the same drawing that I cannot.

Is there something associated to the creator, owner of the visio drawing
that controls this behavior?

you might start by identifying what version and fix levels both of you are
using.....
(the fact that it though it had to convert might be a clue)

The paste is like a picture/hyperlink, the owner has the file on their system
for it to pull it up to edit it, you do not.

Resolution: Share a folder on the network, give all those that will be
editing this content access, now everyone is to work out of that folder only,
storing all visio documents that have been posted into the Word Doc there.

Have fun.
