Number format error when saving Word 2007 file as a 2003 file

Iâ€™ve generated a Word 2007 document with numbered paragraphs. When I save the
file as a Word 97-2003 document, the first letter of each word is cut off,
the paragraph moves down one line, but the numbers remain.

Iâ€™ve tried cutting and pasting the file to another document with no success.
Any suggestions?
