Can't upgrade from 2000 to 2007

I have Visio 2000 (6.0.1245). I purchased the Visio Standard 2007 Version
Upgrade for $129. It downloads the files fine, and then extracts the files
when I click on either open, or save. But, once it starts extracting the
files, it hangs up my laptop. If I wait literally hours, it finally asks if
I want to do the install. Then after more hours of waiting it comes back
with an install error. (using Office 2003 for other Microsoft applications,
Windows XP). What am I missing?
